Trisha Yearwood helped honor those lost, but not forgotten. During the 2020 ACM Awards on Wednesday (Sept. 16), she performed “I’ll Carry You Home” at the Grand Ole Opry House for the ceremony’s In Memoriam segment.

“This year the country music world lost some cherished members. … This song is for those friends and everyone whose earthly presence is missed, but whose memory will be with us for all time,” she said before beginning her song.

“When you can’t walk and there’s chains ’round your soul/ The burden’s too heavy and you’ve run out of road/ And you’re praying out loud,” the vocalist sang beautifully and simply as she was accompanied on stage — while socially distanced — by a pianist and three backup singers. “As you stumble through the rain and snow/ I’ll walk out and find you, I’ll carry you home.”

The song is a track from her 2019 album, Every Girl.

Keith Urban hosted the ceremony, the Academy of Country Music’s 55th, this year. For the first time, the event was held in Nashville. It was originally set for April and its usual city of Las Vegas, but was rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ACM Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Media, the parent company of Billboard.
